Weekend Brunch Outfit Ideas for Delhi

For most Delhi brunches, a midi dress with flat sandals or juttis, small earrings and a crossbody bag is enough. If the plan is a rooftop, swap in a co-ord set and sunglasses; if it is a garden cafe, pick a fabric that breathes and shoes that handle gravel. The one decision worth making before you leave the house is whether brunch is likely to run into the evening, because that changes the shoes rather than the outfit.
What do you wear to a weekend brunch in Delhi?
Brunch sits between casual and dressed, which is exactly why it is hard. The reliable formula is one considered piece plus two easy ones: a dress or a co-ord doing the work, then flat shoes and a small bag keeping it relaxed.
Delhi adds two constraints that most brunch advice ignores. You will be outdoors for part of it, whether that is a courtyard, a terrace or the walk from parking. And the temperature inside and outside can differ by fifteen degrees, so a layer you can carry matters more than the layer you wear.
Does the venue change what you should wear?
| Venue | What works | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel buffet brunch | Midi dress or co-ord set, block heels | Cold air-conditioning, so carry a layer |
| Rooftop or terrace | Light co-ord, sunglasses, flats | Sun on your shoulders, wind on a loose skirt |
| Garden or courtyard cafe | Cotton dress, flat sandals or juttis | Gravel and grass, so no thin stilettos |
| Market cafe in Khan Market or Hauz Khas | Jeans with a good top, sneakers or mules | Long walks between parking and the table |
| Mall cafe | Anything you can shop in afterwards | Shoes that survive three hours of walking |
| Someone's home | Relaxed co-ord or a shirt dress | Floor seating, so check what you can sit in |
The through line is the shoes. Every one of those venues involves more walking or standing than the plan suggests.
What if brunch runs into the evening?
Carry a small pouch with one statement pair of earrings and a lip colour, and wear flats with a heeled pair left in the car if there is a car. That is the whole trick. A plain midi dress with flat sandals at noon becomes an evening outfit with bolder earrings and a heel, with no trip home in between.
We have laid this out step by step in one dress, three ways from day to night, including exactly what fits into a single tote. If you want to add an Indian element for an evening that turns festive, a folded silk dupatta takes almost no room in a bag and changes the whole outfit; our dupatta styling guide covers the drapes that work over a dress.
What works season by season?
April to June. Cotton, mul and light rayon in pale or bright colours. Sleeveless or short sleeves, a midi length so your legs are not against a hot metal chair, and sunglasses. Skip anything synthetic and close-fitting, because it will not survive a terrace at noon.
July to September. Shorter hemlines dry faster and darker colours hide splashes. Flat sandals or washable slides, never suede. Carry the good shoes rather than wearing them out of the house.
October to February. This is the best brunch weather of the year and the widest range of outfits. A midi dress with boots and a jacket, or a co-ord set with a long coat, both work. Layer so that you can take the top piece off once the sun is properly up.
March. Mid-weight cotton with a light layer you can carry by noon.
Our guide to styling a midi dress for Delhi weather goes deeper into fabrics for each of these.
Which shoes actually survive a Delhi brunch?
- Flat sandals and slides. The default for anything before three in the afternoon.
- Juttis and mojris. Comfortable, easy on the eye, and they add an Indian element to a plain western outfit with no effort at all.
- Clean white sneakers. Correct for market cafes and mall brunches, particularly with a dress.
- Block heels. The only heel worth wearing at a garden venue, because they do not sink into grass.
- Stilettos. Only for a hotel brunch where you go from the car to the table and nowhere else.
There are more options across our footwear range, and our notes on comfortable footwear for the Delhi commute apply to a long Sunday just as much as to a Monday.
What goes into a small bag?
- Sunglasses, from March to October at the very least.
- A folded scarf or dupatta, for air-conditioning set far too low.
- One statement pair of earrings, if the plan might extend past seven.
- Blotting tissues.
- A compact power bank, because splitting bills and calling cabs will finish your battery.
A structured crossbody or a small sling holds all of that and leaves your hands free; have a look at the bags that work for a full day out. For the outfit itself, our dresses and tops are the two categories worth starting from, since a dress is one decision and a good top rescues a pair of jeans you already own.
Common Questions
A midi dress with flat sandals or juttis, small earrings and a crossbody bag covers most Delhi brunches. A co-ord set works equally well and is one decision instead of three. Choose the shoes around the venue, because courtyards, terraces and market cafes all involve more walking than expected.
